As summer gets underway, New York City's Commercial Waste Zone (CWZ) program continues to move forward. In this month's newsletter, we're sharing important updates for businesses in both Staten Island and Midtown South in preparation for the July 1 start of the enrollment period.

Staten Island CWZ Enrollment Opens July 1
The countdown is on for Staten Island's Commercial Waste Zone (CWZ) transition. Beginning July 1, businesses and property owners will be able to enroll with an authorized waste provider as the borough officially enters the next phase of New York City's waste collection overhaul.
As one of only three licensed providers selected to serve Staten Island, Cogent Waste Solutions is ready to help customers navigate the transition and establish service that meets their operational needs. Businesses that have not yet reviewed their waste and recycling requirements should take time now to evaluate collection schedules, equipment needs, and service expectations before enrollment begins.
Beyond collection services, Cogent continues to support the region's sustainability goals through Staten Island C&D, our construction and demolition recycling facility. The site accepts a wide range of materials generated by construction, renovation, and demolition projects, helping divert valuable resources from landfills through responsible sorting and recycling practices.
Midtown South Businesses:
Time to Prepare for Your Own Enrollment
Midtown South businesses are just days away from the start of their own CWZ enrollment. Beginning July 1, companies located throughout Herald Square, Union Square, the Flatiron District, NoMad, Koreatown, One Penn Plaza, and portions of Chelsea can begin selecting an authorized waste hauler ahead of the zone's September 1 service launch.
While the transition may still seem months away, enrolling early can help ensure a smooth changeover and provide time to assess service levels, equipment requirements, and recycling opportunities. Businesses that wait until the last minute may face unnecessary scheduling challenges as the enrollment period progresses.
Cogent Waste Solutions will provide comprehensive waste and recycling services throughout Midtown South, including containerized collection, compactors, dumpsters, and customized pickup schedules designed to support businesses of all sizes. Enrollment remains open through August 31, giving customers two months to secure service before the zone officially goes live.
Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary This Independence Day
This Fourth of July, Americans will celebrate Independence Day as the United States approaches a historic milestone: the 250th anniversary of our nation's birth. It's an opportunity to reflect on the people, businesses, and communities that have helped shape our country over the past two and a half centuries.
At Cogent Waste Solutions, we're proud to serve communities across New York City by helping businesses maintain cleaner, safer, and more sustainable operations. We thank our customers for the opportunity to be part of the neighborhoods we serve.
As a reminder, Cogent will not provide waste or recycling collection services on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Customers with regularly scheduled service on that day should contact their Cogent representative to discuss rescheduling options.

The World Cup Has Come to New York
The FIFA World Cup is bringing fans from around the globe to the New York metropolitan area this summer, creating an exciting atmosphere throughout the region and reminding us how sports can unite people across cultures and communities.
To help manage increased traffic on NYNJ Stadium match days, New York City has announced temporary truck delivery restrictions in Midtown Manhattan. Restrictions will be in effect on June 25, June 27, June 30, July 5, and July 19, impacting the area between 30th Street and 60th Street from the Hudson River to the East River.
Cogent Waste Solutions is actively monitoring these conditions and working to minimize any service impacts. Customers with questions about scheduled collections should contact their Cogent representative for assistance.
