This November, Cogent Waste Solutions is grateful for the communities and businesses we serve across New York City. Our newsletter this month highlights our Thanksgiving outreach in Coney Island, helping distribute turkeys and essential groceries with Holding Hands Ministries, updates for Brooklyn South businesses preparing for the Commercial Waste Zones rollout, and a featured video showing how Cogent provides a one-stop solution for waste, recycling, organics, and demolition needs.

From giving back to supporting businesses, Cogent continues to keep NYC running smoothly and sustainably this holiday season.

Cogent Supports Coney Island Families This Thanksgiving

This November, Cogent Waste Solutions continued its annual tradition of giving back during the holiday season. In partnership with Holding Hands Ministries, our team helped distribute turkeys and essential food items to residents of Coney Island, Brooklyn, many of whom are facing food insecurity.

What made this year especially meaningful was the hands-on involvement from Cogent staff across departments. Team members spent the afternoon assisting with the distribution process, handing out turkeys, pantry staples, and fresh produce while connecting directly with community members. These face-to-face moments underscored the importance of supporting neighborhoods that rely on local partners during the holiday season.

Cogent is proud to stand alongside organizations doing vital work in New York City, and we remain committed to strengthening the communities we serve year-round. Visit our website to learn more.

Preparing Brooklyn Businesses for the

Commercial Waste Zones Rollout

As the city moves closer to the January 2026 launch of the Commercial Waste Zones (CWZ) program in Brooklyn South, businesses in that zone will soon need to select an authorized waste service provider. Cogent Waste Solutions is proud to be one of the haulers approved to serve this area, and we’re here to support local businesses through every step of the transition.

Brooklyn South encompasses a diverse collection of neighborhoods including Midwood, Bensonhurst, Gravesend, Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay, Homecrest, and Brighton Beach. If your business operates within these communities, you’ll need to sign a new service agreement during the customer enrollment period, which runs from January 1 through February 28, 2026.

With the rollout approaching, now is the ideal time to begin preparing. Cogent’s team is ready to help businesses navigate the new system: evaluating service needs, ensuring compliance with city requirements, and delivering reliable, efficient collection tailored to local operations.
