Happy New Year from Cogent Waste Solutions! As 2026 begins, we’re excited to share some important updates for businesses across New York City. Most notably, the Brooklyn South Commercial Waste Zone is now live, bringing predictable rates, higher service standards, and a smoother waste and recycling process for local businesses. Cogent is proud to be one of the authorized haulers in this zone, ready to help your business transition seamlessly.
In this issue, you’ll learn what the new zone means for your business, get an inside look at our Staten Island C&D facility, and meet one of our team members who helps make our operations run smoothly. Whether you’re a long-time partner or exploring our services for the first time, there’s something here for everyone.

Brooklyn South CWZ Is Live
As of January 1, 2026, Brooklyn South has officially entered New York City’s Commercial Waste Zone (CWZ) program. This means businesses in the area must now work with an authorized hauler approved by the Department of Sanitation (DSNY). Choosing a provider early ensures your business gets the service plan that fits your needs while maintaining compliance with new standards.
Cogent Waste Solutions is proud to serve as an authorized hauler in Brooklyn South. We can help you select a tailored service plan, transition smoothly to the CWZ system, and maintain reliable, sustainable waste and recycling operations. Confirm your zone using DSNY’s “Find Your Zone” tool, then reach out to Cogent to schedule a consultation and review your options. With Brooklyn South now live, it’s the perfect time to ensure your business is prepared.
Inside Staten Island C&D
At our Staten Island C&D facility, we handle all types of construction and demolition debris, separating materials like cardboard, plastics, copper, aluminum, and steel before preparing them for recycling. Unique in New York State, our facility can operate by barge, processing up to 3,000 cubic yards or 2,400 tons per day, 24/7.
With a full fleet of front- and rear-load trucks, a complete mechanic and welding shop, and custom container services, we ensure all waste streams, from solid waste to compost, are managed safely and efficiently. Safety is a priority: every visitor and driver is guided through our facility to prevent accidents. No matter your business size, Cogent Waste Solutions has your waste and recycling needs covered.
